The problem
The OPDC team lacked a database to access business and address data linked to businesses in their Park Royal business park. The client team needed a solution to visualise and access existing data, update and add data while in the field, and provide a summary of insights. The project required a workable solution within an eight-week timeline.
Discovery
User interviews with the client team were conducted to understand behaviours, requirements and needs of the new product. Representatives from Comms and Engagement, Planning and Business teams were included in this stage.
User research activities were also carried out with AKOU’s engagement team to understand their requirements for in the field data collection.
Define
A set of key requirements for the product were established by the project team:
- Easily searchable for displaying existing data
- In the field data input functionality
- Adaptable directory features for cutting data and producing engagement lists
- Auto-updating overview dashboard
Design
Conducting a series of iterative design sprints to develop high fidelity designs of the product. From sketching wireframes and paper prototypes, through to low-fi and high fidelity designs I utilised the existing AKOU UI design principles and style guide.
Testing and Delivery
There was close collaboration with the development team to deliver product designs ready for development. User testing was carried out through out the design period and after deployment.
Bug tracking and user feedback was managed collaboratively between the design and development teams throughout the first month of deployment.
